We are grateful to have our work in California highlighted in The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy blog, alongside other important actions being taken to accelerate progress on mental health in the United States across government, the private sector, academia, and non-profits.
HBGI is partnering with the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission (MHSOAC) and initially three counties in California to use outcomes-based contracts and enhanced performance management to improve outcomes for people experiencing homelessness and serious mental illnesses. This work builds on the recommendations put forth in our 2023 review commissioned by the MHSOAC on the State’s Full Service Partnerships (FSP) program. A key recommendation was to emphasize more clearly the voice of service users and the outcomes meaningful to each individual around the domains of ‘people’, ‘place’, and ‘purpose’. Focusing on outcomes at an individual level will also result in reduced incarceration rates, hospitalizations, homelessness, and social exclusion across the population.
