This is an incredibly exciting and significant day for global mental health!!!
This is the evaluation of the biggest trial ever of Open Dialogue, the model for community mental health developed in Finland. The report of this UK trial was published in The Lancet yesterday.
It highlights the potential power of a huge shift in the culture/delivery of mental health services – putting the patient in control and giving them agency (and keeping them out of a harmful bed).
“Open Dialogue was associated with significantly lower probabilities of psychiatric inpatient admission and re-referral to crisis care or secondary mental health services, and with improvements in self-rated recovery, health-related quality of life, and satisfaction with services.”
We are raising investment right now to roll this out across the UK’s mental health trusts, in partnership with the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH) and the Centre for Open Dialogue Education (CODE). Beyond the UK, this can help unlock life-changing, life-saving deinstitutionalisation.
