Overview
In India close to 150 million people are affected by common and severe mental health issues and 25% of them do not seek help.
Mpower, an initiative of the Aditya Birla Education Trust, works to address these gaps through comprehensive mental health services across India in the preventive and curative paradigm. Their approach encompasses awareness programs, educational initiatives, preventative interventions, and clinical care tailored to diverse populations.
The Healthy Brains Global Initiative (HBGI) collaborated with Mpower on enhancing their performance tracking capabilities, focusing specifically on two key programs:
- The Foundation – Multi- disciplinary clinical care for underprivileged segment of the society at affordable rates.
- Samvedna – Community model aiding the district mental health programme targeting rural populations
The HBGI-Mpower partnership was designed to strengthen performance management systems through a structured and collaborative process. It began with initial assessment meetings to align on each program’s objectives and understand existing metrics. This was followed by a series of joint workshops to co-develop Results Chain frameworks, mapping activities to intended outputs, outcomes, and long-term impact. Throughout the engagement, data and insights were continuously shared, enabling iterative refinement of the frameworks for contextual relevance and clarity. A comprehensive analysis of existing performance management systems was then undertaken to identify operational strengths and gaps. The partnership concluded with the development of targeted, actionable recommendations to enhance performance tracking and establish a more strategic, evidence-based decision-making framework.
Key Outcomes
The key learnings and outcomes for Mpower from this engagement included:
1.A clearer understanding of the strengths, gaps, and opportunities within the performance management systems of the two identified projects.
2.A draft Results Chain framework for the two selected projects, outlining desired impacts and associated inputs, outputs, and outcomes.
3.Enhanced leadership awareness and strategies for strengthening Mpower’s organizational performance management approach.
HBGI acknowledges Mpower’s exceptional commitment to addressing mental health needs in India. Their innovative approaches to raising awareness and expanding quality care to underserved communities demonstrate remarkable impact potential. The engagement revealed both Mpower’s significant achievements and promising opportunities for enhanced outcome measurement to support their continued growth.
